Roadtripper’s Guide to Minneapolis: Guest Post by Rachel Enerson

I’m a southern Minnesota native, but I’ve called Minneapolis home for about three years. Even when I tried to move or thought about venturing to other states for a few years, something about the Twin Cities compelled me to stay. If you have the opportunity to spend a few days here, take advantage of some of these favorites!

Exploring the Outdoors

My absolute favorite area of the city is right on either sides of the Mississippi River, where you can walk the Stone Arch Bridge and utilize the incredible trail system. From historic buildings to beautiful parks to the St. Anthony Main neighborhood, this is my go-to for new visitors in the cities.

This city’s trail and park system is a hidden gem. Minnehaha Falls is one of the most popular and beautiful natural areas within south Minneapolis, and it also has a giant off-leash dog park nearby. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with a walk around a lake! Lake Nokomis, Lake Harriet, Cedar Lake, Lake of Isles are just a few that are nestled right in the city.

Foodie’s Haven

I could write forever about the Minneapolis food scene. It’s incredibly underrated compared to the rest of the country. Real foodies may scoff at my favorite, but Brasa Rotisserie (southern comfort food), Revival (fried chicken) and George and the Dragon (incredible pub food) are three that come to mind as my top choices.

Some people don’t expect this, but Minneapolis is home to AMAZING PIZZA – you can’t stop here without trying Black Sheep Pizza. Some prefer the unique taste of Young Joni or Hello Pizza, or even neapolitan like Punch Pizza – but really, you can’t go wrong with any of these.

When you’re craving sweets, stop by Izzy’s Ice Cream, where you can get the five-flavor Dizzy Izzy, or Milk Jam Creamery for the “All of Them.”

Local Brews

I’m a fan of local breweries where I can take my dog, listen to live music, play games and try some new craft beers. While Surly will always be a Minneapolis staple, I’m a regular at Lakes & Legends and Bauhaus Brew Labs. Breweries are always popping up around the city so I’m keeping my eye out for new ones!

More of my favorite things to do around the cities and across Minnesota can be found on my blog. I’m ready for Ellie to come visit now so we can conquer these favorites together!
